On behalf of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and team, thank you to everyone who joined us for our sold-out 2024 USHCC Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C.!
We were thrilled to connect USHCC members, government officials, Hispanic business leaders and so many more. Special thanks to all our sponsors and speakers who made the event extra memorable as we celebrate 45 years of business advocacy.
Representing the 36 million Latino voters and the interests of more than five million Hispanic-owned businesses boasting a combined GDP of $3.2 trillion, our Legislative Summit centered on advancing the prosperity and well-being of Hispanic Americans through access to capital, immigration reform and international trade as its top priorities for 2024. Although all distinct, the three areas focus on expanding opportunities for Latino business owners and advancing the prosperity of all Americans.
Addressing critical policy issues, such as access to capital, immigration reform and international trade will benefit the Latino community and the entire U.S. economy. The five million-plus Hispanic-owned businesses, together, currently contribute over $800 billion dollars to the U.S. economy each year. Hispanics are starting businesses at nearly three times the rate of the general population, and Hispanic women start businesses at six times the national rate. The American Immigration Council reports that in 2018 alone immigrants added $2 trillion to the U.S. GDP. And Hispanics comprise almost 19% of the American workforce. Improving important policy issues will only strengthen these numbers.
