IRVINE, CA. – On Monday, a new shelf was installed in DiversityComm’s Irvine-based office to display their three new awards, all given in one weekend. Black Data Processing Associates (BDPA) presented the Evolution of IT Award to Diversity in STEAM Magazine, Elite Service Disabled Veteran Business Owners (SDVOB) awarded U.S. Veterans Magazine the Leadership Award, and Federally Employed Women (FEW) honored Professional Woman’s Magazine with the Continuous Outstanding Support Award.
“It’s a wonderful journey we’re on, working with organizations that are like-minded: striving to advance minorities, veterans and women,” responded Mona Lisa Faris, DiversityComm President and Editor in Chief of Content. “Acknowledging the efforts of these fine organizations is the least we can do—it is their work that propels me and my team to inform our readers about their excellent resources, information, and educational, employment and business opportunities.”
BDPA held its 2015 National Conference and Awards Ceremony, celebrating its 40th anniversary, in Washington, D.C., with GEN Colin L. Powell as its featured speaker. Diversity in STEAM Magazine’s Evolution of IT Award was the first award of the evening, and Faris was both surprised and delighted to hear her magazine named the winner of this prestigious award. When asked why Diversity in STEAM was selected this year, a BDPA representative replied, “Because when we looked back at sponsors throughout the year, Diversitycomm clearly brought us great value.”
“That comment pleased me more than the award itself,” admitted Faris. “Bringing value and awareness—making a difference—is all I want to do.”
On the other side of the country, aboard the iconic Queen Mary in Long Beach, California, the Elite SDVOB (Service-Disabled Veteran Business Owners) U.S. Veterans Magazine with the distinguished Leadership Award for its collaboration with veteran organizations to provide disabled and veteran business owners opportunities to work with corporate America. At that event, DiversityComm’s Rita Kallas, Diversity Director of Partnerships, sat as a guest panelist and judge on a veteran version of the popular television show “Shark Tank.”
“What an exciting day, to serve as a judge on this veteran version of Shark Tank and then to receive this esteemed award,” said Kallas.
“Helping veterans comes naturally at DiversityComm, and this award confirms that we’re on the right track toward achieving equal opportunity and helping our vets thrive in business.” Faris added.
On that very same day, at another conference in New Orleans, Federally Employed Women (FEW), in New Orleans for its 46th National Training Program, awarded Professional Woman’s Magazine the Continuous Outstanding Support Award for its active promotion of women in the workforce.
“Everyone was very excited to receive the generous donation of DiversitiyComm’s various publications in their conference bags,” reported Michelle Crockett, National President of FEW. “DiversityComm’s continued support contributed immensely to FEW achieving our desired training outcome—’Journey to Excellence’.”
“Women in the federal government deserve recognition, and I am grateful to all of these organizations for honoring us,” said Faris. “To all our partners who provide minorities with opportunities, I say, ‘Together, we can move mountains.'”
