Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance (AFWA) recently convened its 2024 Connect. Advance. Lead. Conference in Newport, Kentucky. AFWA champions women in the accounting and finance professions. Previously, only 17% of women in the field achieved partner status within their firms. Today, despite women constituting the majority, that figure stands at just 34%.
AFWA made a notable arrival at the conference with a featured interview on WLWT News led by Sheree Paolello, an award-winning news anchor. Tony Lamb, the Cincinnati, Ohio-based entrepreneur and founder of Kona Ice, graciously shared his inspiring journey from humble beginnings as a door-to-door vacuum salesman to overseeing a remarkable 1,500+ Kona Ice franchises.
Kathy Parry, corporate energy expert, shared “How to Stretch Without Snapping,” in her book entitled, The Rubber Band Resilient Leader. The team at Association International hosted two sessions during the AFWA leadership conference: Alli Lake and Luke Davis discussed the International Coaching Federation’s insights on the power of coaching in supervision, leadership and board management; while Preston Gorman introduced the latest advancement in AI technology that will soon be available to you.
Our last session of the day was a rapid-fire session with AFWA National Board leaders who presented topics from work-life balance to creating an ‘A’ team. AFWA also hosted a Newport Gangster Ghost walking tour to support its foundation. The Foundation of AFWA is charged with raising funds for national scholarships and educational advancement of our peers and rising leaders.
The mission of AFWA is to enable women in all accounting and finance fields to achieve their full personal, professional and economic potential and to contribute to the future development of their profession.
